I'VE BEEN ROBBED

I din't believe it, it seemed so strange, in fact, I still can't believe it.

I was reading some blogs and doing a little casual blog surfing when to my surprise and HORROR I saw one of my very own posts copied verbatim and several of my photos being used on someone else's blog.

I felt violated, used, and helpless.
Now, I don't mind someone sharing from my blog or even using some of my photos or words, but to take the entire post and photos without asking or acknowledging me first was really in poor taste and quite honestly very hurtful. I was so befumbled after scrolling through their blog that I somehow deleted their blog and now, of course, can't find it again.

Has this happened to you?

  1. hiya, found you on Sherry's blog...don't think it has happened to me, (but my blog isn't very copy-worthy, lol) but I am so sorry it happened to you. And I hope it never does again.

  2. This has never happened to me and I hope it never does. Of course you feel violated..someone stole from you! If you remember what it was about, google the subject and the blog post should appear.

I also suggest getting a copyright on your blog...if you go back to my blog and scroll to the bottom you'll see mine. Click on that and it will take you to a site that will give you the information that you need.

  3. Well, I suppose it's a compliment to you in a way, but how awful for you!! I didn't realize about copyrighting, as mentioned by Sherry above. Perhaps we should all do that, although we shouldn't have to. Can't believe she pinched the photos as well!! Sometimes, I will see a lovely quotation that I would like to repeat, but I always ask the person who has posted it if it's alright for me to do so. Poor you!!

  4. Wow, that's awful! And unbelievable that someone would steal an entire post, and pictures too! Some websites are set-up to automatically steal content from blogs using some kind of bot. I saw my stuff show up on a few blogs, but only when I did a Google search of my name blog name. If you change the syndication feed settings to "partial" or "none", you might be able to thwart the bots. But if there is someone, a real live person cutting and pasting from your site, it might be a lot harder to stop the thefts unless you are constantly googling yourself.
Good luck getting to the bottom of this mess. - G

  5. That's pretty low and I am so sorry it happened to you. I hope the culprits are found out by others and reported. That is a seriously low blow.

  6. It has happened to me before and I even have copyright. What can you do? It sucks that they do not give credit to the writer but even with copyright, who is going to sue. I just take it lightly and with open heart and hope the person and his/her readers found some inspiration from my writing and would use that for the highest good for all concerned. Only wish is some credit was given where due.

  7. I've never had it happen to me---to my knowledge! I know it would make me angry, but I guess ultimately, I think I'd think the person was so darn unimaginative that they would have to steal someone else's work and claim it as their own! I suppose if you left a comment, they wouldn't publish it... yes, if you had not deleted the blog, you could have done a post yourself about the theft linking back to them. Bummer!

  8. Thanks to all that commented. I appreciate your suggestions and support. It is a pretty strange thing though to see your stuff come up somewhere else.
Anyway . . . I need to move on to other things in life because stuff happens everyday in many ways. Hugs to you dear Readers.

  9. Not that I know of, but it is rotten. If you want to find it again and copy the author, you might put your post in quotes and do a google search. Just a thought.
